Your date of birth is important to a lot of people and sometimes
because of our busy schedules we may overlook that date. Yet
even though not always remembered, it is usually written down
somewhere, like in a calendar book. Noticing someones elses
handwritten birthdate probably makes you think of your own
birthday, but see if you can remember your parents dates,
particularly the year. I am pretty sure someone out there is asking
a sibling or daughter-in-law, what dads year of birth was.
Do you know what town or city your parents were born in? I am pretty sure it is not where you grew up as a kid. As we progress as a society, technology allows us to move faster and farther. Transportation improvements have allowed us to move further and in a shorter amount of time. What happens is we lose track of some of the simple things in our lives. Documentation is how we store important things today. History books are written and rewritten as new information comes to light. Things that dont change much are the facts, such as your year of graduation and your school. Dates of birth and your birth parents dont change, yes I said birth parents, because more and more people are getting remarried. A family tree can be a fun and interesting task to try to complete. Take a moment right now and try to recall three complete family generations. Try to recall all the brothers and sisters of your grandparents and all their children. Lets not forget the ones who have gone before them, for they are just as important. Now what did these people do for a living outside of the home? Some worked in steel mills and others worked in the military and served in wars and some were even entrepreneurs. Having this information and much more in hand is very important. Social security numbers and birth certificates are important as well. Most people have a copy of each somewhere tucked away in dust-covered boxes waiting to be found in the attic. These are just a few of the facts you will need when that time does come a topic most of us dont like to think about. Take a moment and record the facts of your life and those of loved ones close to you so that you may pass them to the younger generation. It is very difficult to ask a deceased person what their birthday is or who there parents are or where they were born. Please for the sake of your family educate them on who you are and where you came from. Its important for your family... and its important to me. |
