Collier Residents Invited to Complete Parks and Recreation Survey
Funded in part by a Pennsylvania park planning grant, Collier Township is conducting an inventory, assessment and plan for Collier's future park and recreation needs. This study will ensure that proper space is reserved as open green areas for future generations to enjoy, and that Collier maintains the rural character that is part of our history and charm. Residents are invited to participate by completing a Recreation Questionnaire available on-line at CollierTownship.net (surveys will also be available at township events throughout 2008).
Collier Launches New Yard Waste Recycling Program
As mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Collier Township will require residents to recycle leaves, grass, branches and other yard and garden waste as part of our recycling program. These materials cannot be included in weekly trash collection with any bag or container that will travel to local landfills. For 2008, the township will provide for the recycling of these materials via announced curbside and drop-off programs. Residents may also continue to compost or dispose of leaves or grass in traditional or natural ways.
Monthly Yard Waste Drop-off Program
Collier Township Public Works will accept GRASS, LEAVES, BRANCHES and GARDEN WASTE on the FIRST SATURDAY of each month between 8 a.m. and noon and EVERY MONDAY from 7 a.m. to noon at the Collier Township Public Works Stock Yard, located at 110 Noblestown Road, Carnegie, PA 15106. Proof of residency/property ownership will be required such as drivers license, tax bill, etc. Items may be dropped off in approved paper or biodegradable plastic bags only. Secure bundles of limbs or branches from tree trimmings may not exceed FOUR feet in length and TWO feet in diameter. No bag or bundle may exceed forty pounds. NO GARBAGE, SCRAP, TIRES, OTHER RECYCLABLES OR OTHER BULK ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Dates are approximate and subject to change depending on weather. Leaves must be raked curbside or the edge of residence yard. Pick-up will be via the Townships Leaf-Vac along residential streets only. Leaves may be bagged. Use approved paper bags only NO PLASTIC.
Keep Collier Beautiful Day Totals 400 Bags of Litter and 350 Tires This spring, more than 150 residents, groups and Collier businesses participated in the 2nd annual Keep Collier Beautiful Day. A follow-up to the fall 2007 event, this spring / Earth Day collection resulted in a one-day totals of 400 bags of roadside litter and 350 tires collected from along Collier roadways. A true community event, residents and families joined with groups from the Nevillewood Neighbors, Rennerdale Presbyterian Youth Group, local Boy and Girl Scout troops, Chartiers Valley Community Service students and local business in including Lane Construction Corporation and Classic Tree Service. After all the hard work, volunteers were treated to an After Event Tent Thank You lunch sponsored by National City Bank with refreshments and prizes donated by Lane Construction, The Pittsburgh Bottleshop Caf, Peters Place, Eat n Park, Starbucks, LA Fitness, My Way Mobile Storage and Jo-Ann Robb-Prudential Preferred Reality. Program supplies were provided by PennDot and G&S Signs. The Keep Collier Beautiful Committee hopes everyone notices the visible difference made by a one day effort to remove trash from our local roads and that it takes a yearlong effort to prevent the littering that accumulated 400 bags worth of debris! PLEASE TAKE ALL OPPORTUNITIES TO PICK-UP YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS AND STREETS AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO JOIN IN THE CHALLENGE TO KEEP COLLIER BEAUTIFUL! |
