Holiday Inn Washington/Meadowlands ![]() Member Snapshot PJs Deli and Catering Marks 30 Years For Pam Wheat, her three decades of running her own restaurant and catering business have been a dream come true. Some children want to be firemen, some want to be astronauts. Pam always wanted to cook. She spent much of her childhood in the kitchen, helping her mother and grandmother cook, and learning their recipes. Not long after she finished high school, Pams mom and dad gave her the financial backing to start PJs Deli and Catering, and shes never looked back.
It took off right from the start, she says. A lot of
new businesses struggle at the start, but this was profitable
right away.PJs marks its 30th anniversary in November. The secret to the business success is simple great food. The recipes and techniques Wheat learned as a child are still utilized in PJs kitchen for items like manicotti and pierogies Anyone who tries the food says it reminds them of home, she says. We make your food just as if we were making it for ourselves. Over the years, the business has expanded to include a dining room open for weekday lunch and Friday night dinner. A bakery was added where she creates a variety of cookies, pumpkin rolls, and nut rolls, which have become a fast favorite with customers. My mom kept saying that I should try to do something with my nut roll recipe, Pam says. After hearing it over and over, I decided to take her advice. PJs Deli and Catering is located at 700 Bower Hill Road. Eat-in service available 9 a.m. to 3 pm. Tuesday-Thursday. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays.
